Bryan Robson’s depature from West Bromwich Albion has seen Mark Hughes’ Blackburn Rovers assitant Mark Bowen rumoured to have been added to West Brom Chairman Jeremy Pearce’s shortlist.

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, West Ham United, Shimuzu S Pulse, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic, Reading and Welsh International defender has yet to have the privilege of leading a team outright, having spent all of his time thus far in his coaching capacity as an assistant.

As Bowen’s playing career wound down, a serious injury hampering his progress whilst in the latter stages of his time with Charlton would see brief spells with Wigan and Reading, and it would be whilst with Reading that Rovers Boss Mark Hughes, then in charge of the Welsh national team would bring in his former International team-mate as part of the coaching set-up.

Upon leaving his role with Wales, he would link up with another former colleague, one from their early playing days at Norwich in Steve Bruce, working as his assistant firstly at Crystal Palace and then following Bruce to Birmingham City.

Bowen would remain with Bruce at Birmingham until 2004, before leaving his post at St Andrews. He would soon link up with Hughes once more, joining him at Rovers, working as his number two.

It remains to be seen as to whether Bowen would in fact want to become a Manager in his own right, but should he decide to do so, although Hughes, and Rovers fans in general would not like to see him leave you wouldn’t hold it against him should he indeed be given the chance? Some of the West Brom fans however could take more convincing following his spell with bitter rivals Birmingham.

Just a thought and this is a thought purely of my own thinking. Hypothetically speaking maybe a possible Bowen departure, not that I’m on anyway wishing this to happen, coupled with a possible Teddy Sheringham arrival could lead to the obvious possibility of Teddy maybe becoming a player-coach…
