Positively Blackburn Rovers managed to keep a cleansheet on Saturday, however, we drew a blank so had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town at Ewood Park.

Gary Bowyer was left amazed that we didn’t get the win and feels that anyone in attendance at Ewood on Saturday afternoon would have been in agreement with him as Josh King, Jordan Rhodes, Grant Hanley and Lee Williamson all had very good chances.

Rhodes had the best chance of all but he wasn’t able to convert a penalty.

Most of these efforts were repelled by Alex Smithies with the Huddersfield goalkeeper having one of those superb matches that sometimes goalkeeper do, which you love if it’s yours but hate if it’s the other teams!!

Rovers went into the match having to contend with plenty of injuries (and doubts over player’s fitness) so Bowyer was pleased with how we managed and also pleased with the response we got to the defeat to Rotherham United.

The Rovers Manager told Radio Rovers: “We had to respond and I think the people of Blackburn will see that they’ve responded.

“These lads care, the size of the squad was tested severely today but the lads that came in were terrific.

Bowyer refused to blame Rhodes for his penalty miss on the hour and instead highlighted the matches and points he’s previously won us and backed him to come back and score “loads of goals” for us in the future, however, Rhodes was a disappointed man in the dressing room at full time.

The amount of chances created and the manor we’re going about our football continues to please him but he’s called for is for us to be more ruthless.

Adding: “In terms of the number of chances that we are creating and the style of football we are playing, we are more than happy with that but, we do need to be a little bit more ruthless.

Defensive solidarity is something we’ve longed for, a cleansheet is superb and something we need to build on I just hope that the blank we fired on Saturday proves a one off as I’m usually optimistic that we’ll score at least once in most matches.
