It might’ve only been the second match of the Championship season, however, in many ways Blackburn Rovers needed the win that they got on Saturday.

We’ll not get many (if any) freebies this season but (without being disrespectful to Blackpool) with the hastily squad they’ve assembled Saturday had to be as close to that as we could get and we got the job done at Bloomfield Road with a 2-1 win.

Gary Bowyer himself wasn’t getting “kidded” with the problems that Blackpool have been having so took even greater delight in the win, he just wishes we could’ve been a little more clinical in from of goal again.

The Rovers Manager told The Official Website: “We knew it would present a difficult challenge and it was that, but I thought we saw all aspects of our game which was really pleasing today.

“We weren’t going to be kidded about the off the field activities that have been going on at Blackpool.

“We knew there’d be a hell of an atmosphere and we knew that their manager had done a great job in getting them so organised so quickly.

“We certainly could have done a little bit better in front of goal with the final pass, but overall I’m delighted.

When Rudy Gestede’s double had us two up we were looking set for the points but Tomasz Cywka got Blackpool back into the match and we had to defend well, which we did. Bowyer believes this could be a “defining moment” in our season??

He added: “It was a key defining moment for the shape of our season, the players stood up to the challenge,’ added the Rovers boss.

“Tactically we had to stem the tide and I thought we got that right with bringing Lee Williamson on into midfield to bolster that because they were getting through.

“That got us back into the game and then we had a couple more chances at the death.
