There wasn’t much more that Blackburn Rovers could’ve done over the two FA Cup ties with Liverpool (besides the obvious that was score!!) really was there??

Liverpool edged us out (and basically ended our season, as we could’ve theirs!!) with the 1-0 Quarter-Final Replay win at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening, a defeat that left Gary Bowyer with mixed emotions. The Rovers Manager said that his emotion was one of enormous pride for the whole football club and he knows we pushed Liverpool all the way.

Bowyer told Radio Rovers: “Players, staff, the supporters were truly magnificent. We asked them to sing for the full 90 minutes and they certainly did that and beyond.

“It is also one of disappointment. We’ve really pushed them, we’ve had a tremendous effort over the two games.

If it wasn’t for Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal we could’ve won at Anfield let alone Ewood with Bowyer convinced (and I think it’s hard to disagree) that over the 180-minutes of football (plus injury time) The Reds goalkeeper had more saves to make including his last gasp save to deny Simon Eastwood!! He also felt we could’ve had a penalty.

Adding: “If you compare the saves then Mignolet has produced the better saves over the two games. We felt we might have had a shout of a penalty from one of them, we thought Joe Allen stuck his arm out and it hit his hand from Marshy’s header.

“We had a right good go, Mignolet has produced three or four good saves and even at the death when ‘Johnny on the spot’ Simon Eastwood pops up and does a pirouette and hits it you are just hoping it goes either side of him or pops out and it didn’t pop out far enough for the four that were rushing on.

What Bowyer does feel that this match showed the honesty and the commitment that these lads have got and he took pride from it as we all would’ve done so.

However, the next big question is going to be do they have the commitment to stay in the Summer?? Do Venky’s also have the commitment to them (and Rovers) to turn down the offers that they did in January or will the FFP (as much as anything) mean that we’ve little option but to sell!!
