Bowyer frustrated by decisions again

Rovers were left licking their wounds last night, after dropping 2 points in a clash they were certainly set up to win.

After a good first half where Rovers were easily the better side, the lads found themselves in front come the half time whistle.

Some excellent interplay between the likes of David Dunn, Tom Cairney and the two full backs had lead to Rovers looking a threat throughout the opening 45 minutes but despite being a goal to the good Rovers failed to take the initiative in the second half.

Barnsley fought back and Rovers offered good defensive protection but lacked any real initiative to get a third goal that would have killed the game off beyond the home side.

But despite the team’s failings in the second period, it did take what could be (kindly) described as a generous penalty donation for one of the least convincing fouls in human history for Barnsley to draw level.

But on the balance of the game a draw seemed fair, despite the costly decision. Rather than pick out where it went wrong between the players, manager Gary Bowyer went to war once again with the officials, who had a very, very poor night.

‘I feel terribly sorry for the supporters who have made their way over here on a horrible night because they saw their team play some outstanding football, first half especially,’ Bowyer told the official Rovers website.

‘We totally dominated the game, we conceded a goal against the run of play, but then we responded magnificently and scored two fantastic goals and after that it is groundhog day.

‘I had to be careful after the Forest game, I then spoke about it again on Saturday and that one there is the worst of the lot.’

To add to the controversy, two possibly more merited fouls didn’t go the way of Rovers in the first half, leading to more discontent with the chaps in the black.

Bowyer added – ‘Why didn’t he award Adam Henley a penalty when he went down? And why didn’t Jordan Rhodes get one when he was flattened in the box? It is just not good enough.

‘If you don’t give those two then you don’t give that one.

‘We’ve to recover quickly, play as well as we did with the ball and get ready for Blackpool.’

A disappointing night.
