I trust by now everyone has seen the goals we managed to ship on Tuesday against Ipswich? If you haven’t well done, you have won, you are better off steering clear. Suffice to say it wasn’t pretty.

And up to this point manager Gary Bowyer has been a brave face of solidity when it has come to protecting his young players, he’s borderline molly cuddled them in the press at times.

But there was a change in the mood after the 3-1 surrender to Ipswich in midweek, one that saw Bowyer seemingly get tough with his troops ahead of the season’s trickiest encounter so far – tomorrow’s visit to Loftus Road to face title favourites QPR.

“The players understood more the passion and desire that I have, what my standards are, what is acceptable and what is not acceptable,” Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph, possibly turning slowly into an outraged Incredible Hulk.

“I think they`ve seen that from me that`s for sure.

“I`ve come out in the press and defended them when they`ve performed well and lost, and praised them when the time was right to praise them, but the second half showing was not good enough for what we want to achieve this year.”

Bowyer has clarified that the players were not spared any niceties as they sat through the game and possibly shamed a few of the lads with replays of their Sunday League-esque defending, marking and decision making.

“We`ve watched it with the players, made our points clear, and that`s the end of it,” said Bowyer.

“Now we`ve got to make sure we have a response against QPR because we`re more than capable of going and winning there. They`ve got a Premiership manager, Premiership players and a Premiership budget.’

Rovers face a tough task tomorrow as they face a QPR side unbeaten at home this season under Harry Redknapp, furthermore they have yielded just the 2 goals since the start of the campaign at Loftus Road as well.

If Rovers want anything out of tomorrow, we’ll need a reaction. A very good one that represents a huge improvement on Tuesday for one.
