Bowyer signs off with tribute to players

Gary Bowyer has now officially handed over the reigns to new boss Michael Appleton but not before signing off with a draw and a verbal tribute to the players who have held together well inspite of the trouble kicking off above them at the club.

Rovers were fairly lethergic but well organised in a 1-1 draw away at Molineux last night, which saw Jordan Rhodes given our boys the lead before Roger Johnson equalised from a header unmarked with twenty minutes remaining.

But caretaker Bowyer saw the result as something to be cheerful about rather than a more downbeat outlook.

‘I think it is a good point for the team, I think that could prove to be a big point for us this season.’ Bowyer told the official site after the game.

‘I’ve said all along that it isn’t about me, it is all about the players and you have seen tonight the battling qualities that they had.

‘We were put under a lot of pressure from Wolves with balls pumped into the box but I felt we dealt with them admirably. You can’t fault the lads for their effort and commitment tonight.’

Bowyer’s stint as a whole in charge of the side has been viewed as a mini-success with he and his team of Terry McPhillips and Tony Grant gaining credit for the way they handled themselves in a difficult spot.

But instead of taking the plaudits, G-Bow has insisted that the players should be the ones tkaing the bulk of the credit.

‘The players are the ones who have contributed massively, they are the ones that have gone and done it tonight and over the last four games,’ Bowyer added.

‘We went in and we had to just look after the team until further notice and that is what we have done and the performances have been magnificent from the players.’
