Blackburn Rovers didn’t lose any ground on the play-offs (we went into the match on Sunday six-points off them with everyone else playing), however, we didn’t make up any after defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The statistics (in all competitions) didn’t look too bad going into the match at Ewood Park on Sunday but with Wolves going away with a 1-0 win it now means we’ve lost four of our last six matches we’ve played in The Championship.

Gary Bowyer’s come out after the match and said that he didn’t feel there was much between the sides, the main difference being that we didn’t “defend well enough.”

He said: “I didn’t think there was a great deal in the game.

“We’ve spoken about being aware of the counter-attack from Wolves and we didn’t defend it well enough. Simple as that.

“We didn’t defend the goal well enough.

The Rovers Manager has often being criticised as saying the same things repeatedly, with the usual speech rolled out when we lose (even when we win!!) Maybe I’ve “turned a blind ear” to it, however, people could have a point as he always goes on about “doing the basis” and “not much in it,” saying that had we done the basics (as we spoke about at the half time break) the Dave Edwards winning goal three-minutes after the break wouldn’t have come.

Bowyer maintained though that Wolves didn’t offer much more than we did.

Adding: “Don’t get me wrong, Wolves hit the bar on the counter, but our goalie has not been worked and we have to be better. No doubt about that.

“Today we got done once on a counter-attack that we should have defended better.

I’m led to believe that we didn’t create too much at all with the more likely side to score being Wolves?? They had several more chances that could’ve brought more goals with the best we came to scoring an effort that Richard Stearman headed against his own post!! With that in mind was it really “as close” as Bowyer’s making out??

We “have to be better” is something he’s admitted, but has admitted this several times of late!!

If we’re looking like losing further ground on The Championship play-offs then perhaps those being tempted by a move away will take it and Venky’s could be less willing to “risk” keeping our prized assets and might think twice about their availability after all!!
