That, ‘complete shock’, is what Gary Bowyer has said he felt when reports emerged last Saturday he had been sacked as Blackburn boss!

Ahead of the Championship meeting with Bolton, reflecting on the reports of his sacking after Brighton last week, he, in an interview I saw with him on Sky Sports News talked about how the Sun reports took everyone by surprise.

With the squad landing, having flown back from the one-nil defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium, he recalled how phones were going off all over the place when turned back on as the plane touched down.

Also talking about his daughter informing him that he was ‘trending’ on Twitter, perhaps not something many would expect Bowyer to be going! He now knows all about Twitter and tending!

Whatever though he says he’s now drawn a line under this and moved on, saying this in his pre-match conference.

‘It came as a complete shock.

‘It’s part and parcel of the industry we work in. It was reported wrong so we move on and just focus on this game now.’

Bowyer added his position as boss wasn’t clarified by owners Venky’s in the wake of these reports and subsequent denial from Rovers he had ever been sacked, as this was ‘a conversation that didn’t need to be had so we’ve not had it.’

I think it’s safe to say he’ll know, no matter how cool and calm he may appear on the outside he’s under pressure to get a result in the Lancashire derby on Friday….

These chances could be boosted by the return from injury of Jordan Rhodes?

The Scottish striker will be given ‘as long as possible’ to prove his fitness with Bowyer adding on rovers.co.uk.

‘We are going to give Jordan Rhodes as long as possible.

‘He has made inroads this week, the lad is desperate to get back and is working ever so hard.

‘It has taken a little bit longer than what we had hoped, but at the same time it could have been a lot worse as he could have been out for months such was the challenge.’
