Bruce And Savage End Feud

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage and Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce did not part on the best of terms (putting in mildly!) when Savage left Birmingham for Rovers, but Bruce now insists that the feud is over.

The way that Sav left St Andrews in 2005 angered Bruce and the Birmingham fans, with Sav citing family reasons for his wanting to leave as he wanted to be closer to his parents, although Blackburn was actually further away from them than it was had he stayed! Bruce didn’t like the way Sav orchestrated his move to Ewood and he wasn’t afraid to say so, but then again nor was Sav who is never short of a word or two!!! However, Bruce now insists they have put this behind them with Sav actually apologising during the recent Carling Cup tie at Ewood, which Rovers won 3-0.

Bruce told Sky Sports: “Robbie Savage came to me and shook my hand last week and apologised. I think we both could have handled his departure better.

“He was disappointed and man enough to wish it hadn’t finished like that because all I was trying to do was to protect the football club.

“We lost a very good player who was very popular and a cult figure here but there you go. It is water under the bridge now. It takes a man to apologise.

“I don’t think Robbie took into consideration exactly what he was here. The fans thought a lot of him and I don’t think he’s had the adulation anywhere else that he enjoyed at Blues
.”

Bruce and Sav might have buried the hatchet, but this hatchet would without doubt still want to be put into Sav’s back by the vast majority of the Birmingham fans I would guess, who will still come in for a frosty reception when Rovers face Birmingham on Sunday.
