As we probably expected it to be today’s summer transfer deadline day has been a quiet one for Blackburn Rovers, however, we have confirmed the signing of Northampton Town goalkeeper Mark Bunn.

News of a Rovers interest in the Northampton goalkeeper broke on Saturday and the arrival at Ewood Park of the 23-year-old has been today been officially confirmed. Bunn has signed a four-year contract and joins Rovers for an undisclosed amount.

Meanwhile a former (or current?!?!) Rovers target Anthony Annan has joined Norwegian club Rosenberg.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian underwent a trial with Rovers this summer, with it also understood that Arsenal were interested in Annan, as were Racing Santander. However, although it isn’t clear if we still held an interest in him his decision is to remain in Norway.

  • Bunn is a good goalkeeper, and although I don’t think we needed another goalkeeper he will however prove a good signing. It’s a shame that we couldn’t bring in Annan as he’s meant to be a superb talent but we now have Grella and Andrews so we should have enough midfielders.

  • Yeah I thought Annan was a done deal but I’m pleased about signing Grella. Does’nt look like we’ll get in a new right winger before the deadline but we should be ok with what we have till January… I hope!

  • boys u really are ever the optimists….we (the fans of BRFC) have been Royally stiffed!!! We’ve lost arguably our two best players and they have not been suitably replaced!!! We have taken in more money than most again this summer and hardly spent a bean!!! If Midllesborough, Stoke, Fulham and Wigan can spend then why cant we??? Not happy up to now!!

  • Dont be so pessinistic mani. Brad has been replaced by an England goalkeeper who is 10 years younger. Money has been spent on strengthening the ranks and I am confident we are strong. We dont need to spend like the teams you mentioned as we have as trong squad that only needs minor surgergy not overhaul. Slow build… its the way forward.

  • Mani, the squad is in good shape! I agree that Bentley needs to be replaced but you should remember that our success over the last number of years is largely down to bringing in the RIGHT players and keeping the ones we have.

Friedel and Bentley are big losses, there’s no getting away from that but to a large extent the nucleus of the team remains intact. We’ve strengthened in key areas and I think Robbo is a good replacement for Friedel. That we have not been able to bring in a right winger is disappointing, of course it is, but if Ince could not sign any of the targets he had in mind then I’m happy to wait till January for a “suitable replacement” and avoid making a panic buy!

  • I agree Spinny… I would rather we buy someone who is a success and wait for him than panic buy someone who wont help out that much.

  • I agree to an extent boys but i think the “city saga” has brought it home to me…..we ARE losing ground in that league by not keeping up to speed with the teams around us. Boys, our squad is strong in area, which was fine but you gotta keep improving it and the fact still remains that we’ve lost our most creative player and not replaced him with anyone who is proven at this level. I dont know what Bentley’s assists were last year but we,ve still gotta find someone to load the bullets in that midfield…….we gotta spend in January, our squad is good but it has stayed the same whilst others have improved drastically!!

  • Depends how you look at it. Some squads have spent a lot and havent really improved. We will still thrive as the squad is strong and has stuck together… gradual growth always wins over upheavel.

  • another ex-Totenham reject or is this guy replacing Robbinson his CV is pretty reading as we were NOT the only ones after him..
BOYS WE HAV A FORUM PLEASE SUBJECT MATTER..THANK YOU..

  • Just because he isn’t a “big name” it doesn’t make me unhappy. I wonder JUST how much of a hard time Sparky would have got had he brought the likes of Andrews and/or Bunn in?!?!

  • be fair on villinueve then what does he hav to prove after wednesday and ur team are one down..bring a player who couldnt score in the championship in over 80 appearences..
