Calm down, it’s only pre-season!

Time to get something off my slightly over sized chest.

If you have been listening to certain fans in the last few weeks it seems armageddon is imminent.

But let’s get a bit of perspective here. Pre-Season is not about results at all. It is about getting running in the legs and players into the groove – slowly as to avoid injury.

Results mean nothing at this stage. Do you see Man City fans in meltdown after losing 2-1 to New York Redbulls?

Do you see Man United fans pressing the panic button after crashing 2-1 to Kansas City Wizards (what a name!)?

Do you even see West Ham fans bricking it as they were turned over by Burton freaking Albion two days ago?

No, because it doesn’t matter.

Last season we were terrible against Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, but a week later when the real business kicked off we dominated money bags Manchester City. Little emphasis is put on ball work as players try to build up after a few weeks off for the summer.

Infact, in a crafty twist, the only season where we won all our pre-season games was the 1998/1999 season and we ended up getting relegated!

I am not saying it is an exact science but there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be acting like we are destined for the drop. We often find a few a few funny results in pre-season as lower league teams are ahead in their pre-season and keen to claim a big scalp… this matched with the Premier League side only interested in playing at half pace means that results often get over blown.

Let’s get behind the boys, it is not their fault we have done the sweet sum of nothing in the transfer market.

I am not trying to pretend that everything is hunky dory but it hardly the deathly serious melee that others think it is.
