Charlie Mulgrew could be joined at Blackburn by his former Celtic teammate Efe Ambrose according to the Daily Mail.

It’s reported Owen Coyle is keen to bring the defender to Ewood Park with Ambrose’s time at Celtic coming to an end now he seems surplus to requirements at the Scottish Champions having managed just two appearances under Brendan Rodgers this season.

Blackburn are claimed to be keen on securing a loan deal with the Nigerian international until the end of the season.

Ambrose does have other options though with French club Bastia said to have offered him a two year contract with another unnamed English club also interested. However, that rival English interest is in a permanent basis.

The 28 year old was a target of Belgian club Standard Liege previously with the Mail reporting a £300,000 offer had been made for him last year – this was accepted – but Ambrose wanted to stay and fight for his place at Celtic Park.

With Ambrose struggling to make a matchday squad at Celtic he’s ready to leave. But it’s far from certain he’ll come to Ewood though as there’s not much sign as yet to suggest Coyle will get the backing from the club to make the moves into the transfer market he wishes to.
