Constructive criticism for the Rovers attack

Rovers suffered a 2-0 home loss to in form Millwall on Saturday in a game which saw the home side frustrate and not take the half chances that came their way.

Our boys looked as comfortable on the ball as they have done under Berg, a huge improvement on the blind panic and lack of cohesion that existed under former manager Steve Kean, but lacked any real urgency when in possession.

This left the visitors able to maintain their shape a lot better and Jordan Rhodes cutting an incredibly lone figure upfront, as he was left more isolated that a desolate island.

Luckily, manager Henning Berg was quick to echo these sentiments and is thankful for the chance to try and rectify things in time for Bolton at home on Wednesday.

“We`ll have to work on the finishing to make sure that when we get into those good positions we score the goals,” Berg told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“We did that against Peterborough and we would like to do that much more often.

“We could improve in terms of the final third. Our decision making in the final third can be better to give us even more chances.

“We get into good positions but decision making is lacking. That is something that we`ll have to improve.

“Offensively we have to find the right timing and balance in the through passes and the movement. We make some good runs but we didn`t use them.”

With Bolton up next there is no rest for the wicked with Berg eager to make the most of the gaps that were created by Rovers that on Saturday were left unexploited.

Berg continued – “There are no days off before that game (Bolton) I can tell you. We will have to make sure that our recovery is good and that we are all fine for the Wednesday game which we should be because these players are used to playing twice.”

“He (Rhodes) is occupying two central defenders that gives a lot more space for other players like Ruben Rochina, Danny Murphy, Dickson Etuhu, Markus Olsson.

“The opposition can`t cover all those spaces. Jordan does a good job and makes sure he keeps them quiet. We need that bit of extra quality to find him in the last third and for other players to give him chances. We had a lot of half chances and were in good positions but we lacked that bit of cutting edge in the final third.”
