David Dunn Returning To His Best

All Blackburn Rovers fans had hoped for big things from David Dunn upon his return to Ewood Park, Sunday saw him put in his best performance yet and it didn’t go unnoticed.

When Rovers boss Mark Hughes brought Dunn back to Ewood Park in January he was always mindful of over exposing the returning hero, making him wait several weeks before giving him a second debut.

As Dunn has gained more and more match time his match fitness levels have increased and you have physically seen him improving, at first he was puffing and panting (much like Stephane Henchoz does from the first to last minute on most occasions!) but he has gotten stronger and with this his performances have improved culminating in his best thus far in the 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers on Sunday earning him praise from Hughes:

David looked strong towards the end [against Bolton] and that was reassuring because you might expect his energy levels to drop. But we have done it in the correct way with David.

We were conscious that we didn’t want to give him too many games too quickly. We exposed him to it then we took him back out, but now I think he looks stronger every time he plays.”

What is even more encouraging Dunny seems to have learnt the art of defending, something we rarely if ever saw him do during his first spell with the club…
