With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2008-2009 season.

The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2008-2009 continue to be dished out with the COLIN HENDRY AWARD FOR DEFENDER OF THE SEASON.

THE WINNER: Gael Givet.

When asked to simply leave the name of your Defender of the Season most felt Givet should be the Award Winner, so congratulations to Givet, who picks this up despite only being at Ewood Park for half a season!!

This is what people had to say on this category, which can also be viewed by clicking here.

Mikey D said: “Ryan Nelsen.

Only defender during the Ince days that stayed focused throughout and has been a rock under Allardyce. Turned in a superb display every time it was needed.

Great captain.

retroflair31 said: “Chris Samba. Rarely put a foot wrong, winning every header, fighting for the ball and caused headaches up forward. After all, the best form of defence is attack.

Money4midfield said: “Is Givet in with a shout? A latecomer, but he was immense. Nelsen had a poor start to the campaign, as did Samba. And what about Ooijer? He really surpassed my expectations at right-back this season. Just think back to the hideous chopping-and-changing of our defence under Ince… Ooijer was the addition that really steadied the ship.

BomBom said: “Really hard to pick given that they all had their ups and downs but I’m going for Paul Robinson purely cos the blow of losing Brad was very well cushioned by him.

glen9mullan said: “I will definitely go with Warnock, cant be player of the year without being defender of the year too, and yes he has played many games in midfield but apart from being ruined by Valencia at the JJB has rarely put a foot wrong at the back.

adrianbrfc said: “Ryan Nelsen.

Blue n Whitey said: “Gael Givet! he has been a Rock at the back, especially against man united away!

roversman said: “I thought I would raise a few eye-brows going for Givet but he already has a couple of votes. He made a huge difference when he arrived. Nelsen has been superb throughout again and I’m going to miss Ooijer who had his best season at Rovers. Alas, it is Givet who gets the nod for me.

sasman said: “Definitely Givet, it wasn’t a coincidence that when he came in, we started to keep a tight back 4, worked perfectly with Nelsen and the others in defence, well done.

Durks said: “Yeah Givet for me has looked really good this season. Maybe a little unfair on the others to say so considering we are judging them over a longer period but I feel each of our other defenders has gone through a rough patch, not doing basic things properly which should happen regardless of manager.

FreidelNo.1 said: “Ryan Nelson – purely because he finally scored a goal!!

JuanFranDeLaHuego said: “I have to go Stevie W again. We always look better with him in defence. I’m fully expecting Givet to win this next year (with a full season under his belt).

dominator2800 said: “Nelsen. He is the stabilizer and organizer of our defence.

Blue_Canoe said: “Got to be Givet. Looked absolutely class in almost every game I saw. Before he came, I don’t think any of the defenders could honestly say they deserved the award, so even with only half a season he wins my vote.

Thanks for voting on this, PLEASE KEEP your votes coming in for these other Awards, as there is STILL time to vote so click here for the list of categories and vote on the one(s) you want!

Next to be dished out will be the Award for the TUGAY AWARD FOR MIDFIELDER OF THE SEASON so keep voting!! (Click here.)
