Wes Brown has been training with Blackburn for much of the summer since the former Manchester United and England international defender was released by Sunderland at the end of his deal.

I say ‘training’ but Brown (which has so often been the case during his footballing career) has had some injury niggles that have seen him looking on from the sidelines and until now unable to put pen to paper on a contract with Blackburn, or another club.

After the defeat at Elland Road among the things Owen Coyle spoke about to the BBC were Brown.

The suggestion is the with veteran now viewed as being ‘up to speed’ Blackburn are to offer Brown a deal.

‘I’ve spoke to Wes over the last number of weeks. It was important that we got him up to speed in terms of fitness and he has now come through that process, so that is something we would look to do.’

Brown would add plenty of experience (and in fairness ability) but he also comes with an injury background so you would wonder just how much he would actually play for Blackburn and you also have to think why clubs have hardly been banging down the door to sign him since his Sunderland release….
