Derbs: Give Me A Chance To Glow

Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire has not only been building up our chances of possible UEFA Cup glory this season, he has also taken time to look at his own contribution this season. And he HOPES that he is given the chance to prove what he can do.

Last season Derbyshire burst onto the scene at Ewood Park, taking the opportunity afforded him at the misfortune of other to show that he was worthy of a place in the team (as I had been banging on about for weeks prior!!!), fulfilling much of the promise the Blackburn born striker had shown.

After getting this place he went on to score 10 goals in total last season, as well as winning Under-21 caps with England, and scoring goals for them also (including a debut goal!) but now he is hoping that he will continue to be given a chance to show he is worth it.

The arrival of Maceo Rigters (and dare I say the imminent arrival of Roque Santa Cruz?!?!) added to what was already in place here, and will put further pressure on a starting place for Derbs, but competition is good for everyone, and ALL players will be needed this season. He feels that some may still doubt him, but all he is hoping for is the chance to prove them wrong.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph (once again, these quotes are from the Telegraph but I am not sure they were quoted direct to them?):

People may doubt me, and that’s fair enough, but all I can do is show them what I can do.

“To do that, I have to score goals. And to score goals, I have to play games. If I don’t play I can’t do anything. I just hope to get the games to answer a few people.

“We’ve got the new signings in and getting back the injured players – they are like new signings.

“We’ve got a great squad and we should be aiming for the top ten or even higher.

“Competition is going to be stronger than ever and I just hope to play as much as I can
.”
