Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire insists that he is more than just a supersub, and doesn’t want to be labelled with this tag, and does eventually want something more.

Derbyshire has come off the substitutes bench to score the winning goal four times this season, and Mark Hughes appears to think this is the best way to use the 21-year-old, but Derbs is convinced that he can prove Hughes wrong, but knows he will have to be patient with the likes of Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy around, however, he is not looking to complain about this for a while yet should the situation not change.

Derbyshire is quoted on Setanta Sports as saying: “I don’t want to be branded a supersub because I think I’m a bit more than that.

“I think it’s just a case of being in the right place at the right time, coming off the bench.

“The gaffer knows when to put me on, and when he thinks I’m ready to start a game.

“I never bother him like that, unless it’s a case of not playing at all, then I might go in and see him.

“It can be a bit frustrating but what can you say when you’ve got strikers like we have at the club playing ahead of you, particularly when they are doing well and scoring goals?

“At the moment, I can’t really complain
.”

The England Under-21 International is still learning all the time, should he still be being used in this way in a year or two’s time that is when I think the local boy will start wanting something more.
