Blackburn striker Matt Derbyshire has completed his move to Olympiacos, where he will play until the end of the season.
The England Under 21 star has struggled to win a regular place in the Rovers side this term and has stated he sees this as a chance ot get some first team agmes under his belt in order to win a long term starting spot at the club he has supported since being a child.
Derbyshire, speaking to Sky Sports, said – ‘I am excited at the prospect of joining such a big club as Olympiacos and when I found out about the possibility of moving there, it was something I looked at,’
‘I saw they were top of the league and I have been told by various people they are the biggest club in Greece with fanatical fans. I had the opportunity to stay in England as other clubs were interested in me, but I fancied this opportunity to join one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
‘It gives me the chance to play in Europe and experience a different culture and I am really looking forward to it.’
Derbyshire is definitely a fan favourite at Ewood and will be back better off for his experience abroad I am sure.
Do us proud Matt.
