Derbyshire Could Add To Striker Woes

Blackburn Rovers are facing a potential striking crisis this weekend after Matt Derbyshire limped away from England’s Under-21 match on Tuesday Evening.

Derbyshire was eventually forced off in England’s 3-0 European Under-21 Championship Qualifying 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland with a little over an hour played (having previously picked up a knock to the shin that he was unable to run off) and he could now provide Rovers with another much unwanted, and VERY untimely injury worry.

In the summer when Roque Santa Cruz signed this gave Rovers five genuine top class International quality strikers (not forgetting Paul Gallagher of course!) so we were spoilt for choice, but Jason Roberts recently picked up a thigh injury and is out, Santa Cruz is suffering with tendonitis in the knee so if Derbs misses out too that will leave manager Mark Hughes with only Benni McCarthy (who has looked out of soughts) and Maceo Rigters (who has not played much football) for Saturday’s Premier League match with Reading.

However, with injuries often opening the door for people (with this actually being the case for Derbs last season) this could be the opening that Rigters has been looking for, and could prove the turning point in his Rovers career?!?!
