Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire came off the bench to rescue a point for us against Middlesbrough on Saturday, and manager Mark Hughes was relieved.

With time running out and Middlesbrough looking more likely to increase their 1-0 lead than we were getting back into the game, Hughes turned to Derbyshire who came on and duly slotted home the equalise, much to Sparky’s relief, although he knew what impact Derbs could make.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Whenever Matt comes on as a substitute, invariably he has an impact, and that’s why he’s such a good player to have available to you.

“He’s always looking to get on the end of things in the box, and he’s nice and sharp, and nice and dynamic, and thankfully the ball broke to him and it was a good finish in fairness.

“I thought he tucked it away very calmly and you hope at that point you can go on from there.

Derbs is a goalscorer, this is what he does and he DIDN’T let us down on Saturday, but then again does he ever?!?!
