Rovers striking options could be looking a whole lot better very soon as the arrival of Franco Di Santo from Chelsea (on loan) is to be completed after getting the nod from Chelsea to go find first team football for a season.

Reports are coming in that Carlo Ancelotti has rubber stamped the season long loan deal of young startlet Franco Di Santo from Chelsea after deciding that he is very good but in need of more regular first team action which Rovers can certainly give him.

That deal should be going through very shortly and will provide Big Sam with the lead the line, target man striker that he desires.

However, the signing of Kamel Ghilas has BROKEN DOWN at the final stage after a tests at Ewood Park have shown something untowards and Sam has decided not to sign the deal off and sent the player back to Celta Vigo.BR>

We still have a lot of money left at our disposal though so we could be using a lot of this for a central midfielder, creative force or maybe Sam has something bigger in mind striker wise?

Sam seems to think he can do better elsewhere and he wants to make the right decision on his strikers – which is fair enough.

It will be interesting to see what the VBers think of this.

  • must of failed a medical everything was agreed, either that or he dnt fancy the north west after watching the reserves last night, i hope its not due to rovers as its unfair to get a lad over build his hopes up then dash them at the 11th hour

  • Di Santo will do pretty well for you, I would imagine. He’s got plenty of class and potential, having done the business at every level up to the first team at Chelsea. Personally, I’d rather the deal was only short-term, as I can see us being a little light on strikers during January’s ACoN, but there’s no doubting the kid will benefit from the experience. As long as he’s played, though!

  • shame, at 2 million, think that it could have been a good gamble! wonder what he could have failed in a medical though?! Good news about Di santo, should contribute to pushin on to the top half, even tho its not on a permanent basis!

  • Hmm,strange one that one. Obviously delighted to see Di Santo come in. But still a little worried about the long term. It would be nice to have some decent prospects of our own to replace an ageing line-up of JR and Benni Mac.

  • Don’t forget our Gallacher, he can out in 5-10 if he gets the chance.Still I think we need the striker with 15 goals in him. I hope on Pog in my eyes a very good signing even though we might sell him after a year to cash in a void a RSC case…cheers

  • The Di Santo deal is not 100% definite but its looking good – however this Ghilas lad, if something wasnt right it wasnt right and its best we dont get lumbered with an injury prone player (again.) Agreed with you about Gally riisenholt.

  • wow this is a big surprise- his manager came out and said he was a Rovers player. Look foward to hearing what happened

  • Curious. According to reports, the deal was all but signed. Hope DiSanto signs, we could do with a definite signing to settle some nerves.

  • Di Santo could prove to be a good scoring threat with some additional experience. He seems to be able to get into position, but lacks the ability to finish in front of the net. Good news is that you help someone calm their nerves and put more shots on goal, but you cannot teach them how to create the chances.

  • Disppointing that Ghilas didn’t sign but I’ll trust Big Sam on this one, if there was even the slightest doubt we’re right to pull out. Di Santo looks a good talent, and with (albeit) limited Premier League experience I’d personally think this makes him a better bet anyway.
