Paul Dickov returns to Ewood Park on Sunday as Blackburn Rovers entertain Manchester City, with the fiery Scotsman looking to get one over his former club.

The former Scottish International arrived at Ewood in 2004 following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premiership. His arrival would anger the Leicester fans, having previously publicly pledged to remain with the club in a bid to see them return to the top flight.

Dickov would enjoy a successful spell at the club, in his first season regular football would be assured, however after beginning last season injured, the summer arrivals of Craig Bellamy and Shefki Kuqi, and then loan arrival from Liverpool of Florent Sinama Pongolle in January would see Dickov struggle for regular action, and a return to Manchester City, whom he has left in 2002 when signing for Leicester, would happen on a free transfer in May.

It’s always nice to score against your old club, so hopefully I can put one over them on Sunday,” Dickov would say when speaking on the official Manchester City website.

Dickov would obviously admit he is returning to Ewood looking to win but would be very complimentary towards his former employers, also saying:

I’ll be looking to go there on Sunday and get a result.”

I think that Mark Hughes has got a team of good lads, a team of honest lads, and a team of players who all want to work hard for one another.”

I think that showed last season, that if you’re well organised and hard to beat then you can get a lot of success.”

The 33-year-old Scot, who in 50 appearances for Rovers scored 14 goals would also indeed go on to pay yet more tribute to Rovers saying that “we’ve got to look at what they did last season and take that on board.”
