Does Shearer Have The Bottle For Management?!?!

Blackburn Rovers legend Alan Shearer “politely declined” the managerial job at Ewood Park on Wednesday Evening Live on BBC Television. That is his decision but has he become too comfortable sitting on the couch to become the manager that he keeps claiming he wants to be?

I had been waiting for the talk about the vacant job at Rovers to come up each time Shearer is working for the BBC and finally this came up during the half time analysis of the Switzerland vs Turkey Group A match at the European Championships on Wednesday Evening, and Shearer ruled himself out of the running once and for all. Shearer came up with what was probably a well rehearsed speech, which I personally believe is a lame excuse for a man that is becoming overly comfortable doing what he is doing with his work as a television pundit.

Shearer told BBC Two: “The situation was, and is, that I was very flattered to have got a call from the chief executive, John Williams, at Blackburn.

“He asked me if I would like to be included on a shortlist for the manager’s job, which I politely declined because of the commitments that I have, namely this one.

“I was very flattered to have been asked and I thank him for that.

“He has made two great decisions in his last two decisions for the managers, and I am sure he will go on and make a third one, and I wish him good luck
.”

This is now the Newcastle United and Blackburn jobs that he has spurned (or at least jobs within these two Football Clubs). Two superb opportunities to break into the world of football management (or at least get a foot on the ladder) but he has turned down both opportunities to carry on his career in the punditry world, a world that offers good money for little in return.

Shearer keeps claiming that he does want to become a manager, but does he really?!?! Would someone that is so interested in doing so keep turning down these opportunities to remain in the luxury that they are? Perhaps he is waiting for a lower profile job to test the water with? However, the longer that this remains the case the harder it will be to move away from it, just ask any one of the number of so called expert pundits that offer their insight for match analysis and half time small talk.

At least he didn’t mess us around, but personally I feel that Shearer has again bottled it, he isn’t man enough to have a crack at it and prove that he can do the job that he seems to think that he can, he does a lot of talking but actions speak louder than words and his actions in regard to something that he constantly says he wants (football management) are VERY muted!!!
