Blackburn Rovers fans under the age of 16 are being offered the chance to scoop a pair of free tickets to the local derby with Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park on Sunday.

The following press release for Rovers’ derby game with Bolton at Ewood on Sunday has just sent to me:

Blackburn Rovers Offers Free Tickets To Children With Same Names As Stars

Are you Mark Hughes, Benni McCarthy or Robbie Savage? If so, Blackburn Rovers Football Club wants you again!

To celebrate the Premiership showdown against local rivals Bolton Wanderers on 22 October, Rovers are searching the streets of Lancashire for youngsters who share the same full name as their heroes in the Ewood squad.

If your full name is David Bentley or Lucas Neill, or the same as any other Rovers first team player or coach and you’re aged under-16, you will win two free tickets to the much-anticipated derby and have your picture taken with them!

Simon Williams, Head of Sales and Marketing, says:

I don’t know if we’ll come across any Morten Gamst Pedersen’s in the town but we’re sure there’ll be fans who share names with some of our squad.

The Bolton match is a fantastic local derby and we want as many families to attend as possible. We recognise these games often stick in the mind thanks to the big crowds, passionate atmosphere and closely contested games. All football fans have memories of favourite derby games and we’d like to start giving some positive memories to a new generation of young fans starting with the Bolton game.

By reducing the price of tickets to £15 adults and £5 concessions, we’re making it more accessible to families. We’re therefore aiming for a full ground in the home stands as well as the way end to generate a fantastic atmosphere which can only help the team on the pitch.”

To claim their free ticket in the family stand, they or a parent/guardian must come to the ticket office with ID proving their name by Thursday 19 October.

I thank Brazen for taking the time to contact me with this idea, which I think is a great idea that will hopefully get the next generation of Rovers interested.

This is a competition the kids will love, so if you know any Michael Gray’s, Steven Reid’s or Francis Jeffers’, which would be more likely than Zurab Khizinashvilli’s, Morten Gamst Pedersen’s or Shabani Nonda’s then get in touch with Blackburn Rovers Football Club and get them, the support of Rovers’ future free tickets!
