Blackburn continue to battle to hold onto one Shane Duffy and Grant Hanley, if Owen Coyle (as he wants to) is able to retain the services of both remains to be seen.

Duffy is someone Blackburn want to tie down to a new deal with Swansea, West Brom and Celtic interested.

Hanley, linked with Newcastle, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday is valued at reported £8m?

Republic of Ireland international Duffy has impressed with Blackburn in the past 12-months with him forcing his way into the national sides XI increasing interest in the former Everton defender with Coyle quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph as saying he wants to keep the defender at Ewood Park.

‘I will indicate to Shane Duffy and anybody in that situation, that at Blackburn Rovers we`d love to have them here. All we can do is enter into that dialogue, present something to the players and their representatives, and see where we go from there. That`s certainly in my mind to keep those good players and try and be proactive in doing that. Decisions will have to be made at some point and then we`ll take it from there.’

The 24-year-old has been with Blackburn since 2014 but with Premier League clubs Swansea and West Brom, along with Scottish Champions Celtic, said to be interested in could be tough for Rovers to keep hold on Duffy, even though he’s under contract.

The Derry Journal has reported Celtic’s interest in Duffy would see Brendan Rodgers willing to offer winger James Forrest to sweeten that deal?

As for Hanley, having turned down two offers from Newcastle so far the Daily Mail has reported an £8m asking price has now been set whereas it was previously said by the Northern Echo the £6m would be enough to secure the Scottish international even though we wouldn’t want to lose him.

That asking price isn’t something Newcastle would pay but some rumours have claimed Championship rivals Wednesday (as they look to go one further than the losing play-off final season last campaign) will match that and have offered £8m.

If Blackburn are able to keep both central defenders it’ll be a surprise, determining which one goes is a tough call but losing both surely isn’t an option, is it?

Hanley going to Newcastle is now very much on according to the latest from Sky Sports with them having ‘sources’ that claim a fee has now been agreed with £5.5m enough to see the captain take his leave of Ewood with him now closing in on a move to St James’ Park.
