David Dunn and Santa Cruz are back in the squad for the game with Newcastle tomorrow. Both are undeniably key players.

Santa Cruz will have to prove to the Rovers fans his desire to plough on in the face of him trying to move away/not move away. Tomorrow is his chance to do it.

Dunn on the other hand will never have his Rovers’ commitment questioned and just needs to stay fit.

Santa Cruz has missed the last four matches with a calf strain, while Dunn has had two games out with a hamstring problem.

Sam Allardyce will be looking to remain unbeaten against his former club.

Gael Givet will not feature as he is not match fit – Sam himself has said that he won’t be considered.

  • Whether Santa wants out or not – he is a good presence to have in the squad. Dunn on the other hand is our best midfielder, so good to have him back.

  • Play Dunn but let Santa warm the bench as Glen says. Roberts and McCarthy have been pivotal in our recent upturn in form so why should they make way for our supposedly best striker?

  • Cruz will start on the bench I’d imagine. He’s not been in great form this season, and Benni & JR have been notching them up since Big Sam arrived.

Just read a bizarre article on the guardian site that suggested that Cruz will be a Citeh player by next weekend. Very strange, they also said sparky would be playing 4-1-4-1 with Kaka, Ireland,W-Philips and Robinho in midfield. Where does the press get this stuff from.. Oh,…. Mark Bowen apparently!

  • Is it a good idea to start Dunn? I wouldn’t want to rush him back! He’ll be out injured again…! However, Big Sam does like Dunn (he tried to sign him for Bolton, before we poached him with an 11th bid in for him…), so he would want him back inthe side ASAP. I wouldn’t start him though. Midfield of Pederson, Tugay, Andrews, and Emerton, with Dunn coming on for Andrews around the 60 min mark. Santa Cruz to come on for a few minutes at the end, replacing a dejected McCarthy…

  • Personally I think maybe both should start on the bench, we don’t want to risk Dunny and if Santa doesn’t really want to be here why play him? Accept and offer ffrom Man City and let him go and take the money before it’s to late. Probably not a popular view but with Benni, JR and Derbs I think we have enough even if Big Sam doesn’t bring in another striker.
