David Dunn has been appointed as the Blackburn Rovers vice-captain this season by manager Paul Ince.

Being handed this responsibility seems to cast aside any doubts that the 28-year-old might not have featured that much for Rovers as he will be the man next in line to skipper the club if/when Ryan Nelsen is unavailable, as will be the case at the start of the season (Nelsen is playing in the Olympic Games) and the Rovers fan is honoured to have been handed this.

Dunn told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “As a Blackburn fan I’m very pleased.

“If Nelly is missing then I’ll be able to captain the team which will be great. I’m pleased with it
.

Ince has made Dunny his vice-captain as he believes he is the perfect role model for everyone at the club, is well respected and has shown his qualities to him since he came to Ewood Park.

Ince added: “Since I’ve come in he’s been an excellent example, not just to the young lads but to everybody else.

“Being a local lad, I think its important, and he’s got leadership qualities. I said to him it is now up to you to show me that you have those leadership qualities, I see it in you, it is now for you to show that with the rest of the players.

“On the field he’s a fantastic player, he can make things happen. He’s got responsibilities now both on and off the pitch, and I just thought it was the right idea.

“If he does the things that I know he can do then I think he’ll be a great replacement to come in if Ryan Nelsen ever did get injured, fingers crossed that won’t happen, or was away on international duty
.”

Congratulations to Dunny on this honour.
