Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has identified David Dunn as his main man for Rovers this season.

Dunn is being deployed in a role behind the striker this season, with Allardyce calling the midfielders role the Steven Gerrard role with Big Sam also backing the 29-year-old to blossom even further.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “David’s skill and talent is what we need on a weekly basis.

“I think we’ve found a position for him that will cause a lot of problems. We have four strikers with David taking up a Steven Gerrard role.

“David has blossomed into one hell of a creative player with two goals from three games.

“He’s opening up defences. The flair players like David and (El-Hadji) Diouf make a big difference when they use their skills in the right areas.

The former England International now NEEDS to stay injury free!!

  • He was absolutely brilliant on Saturday was’nt he! If we can just keep him fit I reckon he’s going to have a massive season for us.

  • aaaaah man! how glad i am to have a season ticket this year! im hoping Dunny stays fit, cos if he does, then i predict a good season! He was absolutely magnificent on saturday, all he needs now is to chop his mop off his head, that must slow him down!? haha!

  • Mikey, thats because there are no other players like him!!!…The only reason that Dunny plays for Rovers and not one of the top 4-5 teams is because he is injury prone!!! To pay for that type of talent would cost 15-20m plus!!!

  • I am really happy with dunny, and hes going great. just thought i would add that id prefer him in the middle of a 4-4-2, with grella holding, and emo/gamst/diouf on the flanks, kalinic and benni up top.

  • so glad he is back to his best. I hope he can play all season injury free and who knows maybe break into that england squad for SA. I am getting ahead of myself but i just so want it to happen as Dunny has been through so much in his career and i don’t want him do go down as a one cap wonder for england

  • Boys were are bein a little critical here…..i know wolves aren’t world beaters but we created over 20 chances on saturday, were as free flowing as we have ever been n now we have around 5 TOP TOP players fightin to get in to our team!!!! Hows about “Guys, prove your better than what we currently have playing on the pitch and you can have a shirt on saturday”……to be fair to Sam we had an excellent balance between attack and defence and never looked like we could lose the game…why change the team????
