Dave Dunn has urged Big Sam Allardyce to sign up his mate and former Rover James Beattie.

Dave and James have a long standing frienship and Dunny knows the value of having local, passionate players in each side.

Rovers are just waiting for the transfer of Captain Strop to West Ham to be completed and then they can make a last ditch move to bring in a striker.

Beattie one of the names Sam Allardyce will be looking at but the new contract boy has thrown his hat into the ring and backed James Beattie.

Dunn speaking to the Mirror said – ‘Coming here would probably be Beatts choice anyway. It is the other stuff like fees and the like that could be the stumbling block.

‘He is a great player and a player who would do well in the side. It would go down well with the fans as it is always good to have local players in the side.“

Dunn, speaking about himself, admits he could have gone to Spain or stayed in England with a different club.

But Rovers is his hometown and his favourite club so this was the only REAL choice.

Dunny continued continued – ‘I had other options and being on a free in the summer I could have cashed in a little bit, but having said that this is where I play my best football.

‘A stint in the sun did go through my mind but this was the place I wanted to be at.

‘I am settled here, my family is here and my kids go to school here. It was the right thing to do and I think we can push on as well.

‘This next few games are important for us. If we can win our next few games there is no reason why we can`t push on for the Europa League.“

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes keeping hold of the talismanic Dunn was key to keeping passion for his side at its peak.

Allardyce spoke to Sky Sports and said – ‘He is Blackburn through and through, David. His whole life as a footballer started in this town and he fulfilled his dream by playing for a local team.

‘There is nothing better than one of your own. It doesn`t happen very often but it`s great to have him signed up.

‘His passion for Blackburn is great because it rubs off on other people. He has a great desire as it is hometown club and is more passionate about it than other people.
