Blackburn midfielder David Dunn has been dealt a blow by being ruled out for FOUR months. He has succumbed to an achilles tendon injury that will require surgery and should be out till the new year.

The news of Dunn’s need for an operation has come as a huge blow to Blackburn as Dunn has been one of the club’s best performers so far this season, dominating the game against Everton and also having a blinder in the first half against Hull before being taken off with said injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Blackburn gaffer Paul Ince said : ‘We gave him an injection a couple of weeks ago, hoping that would do the trick, but he’s not getting there so we’ve no option but to put him under the knife, it’s a massive blow to us, and especially for the lad because he has been fantastic on and off the field.

‘I gave him the responsibility of being vice-captain, which he took on board and he has been bubbly since I gave him that role. When you think about him, he is 28 now, but three or four years ago he would have been worth £15m or £16m. That’s the type of player we’re losing. It’s a kick in the ribs, but we’re going to have to get on with it.

Other bad news is that Vince Grella, our new signing and Sasman’s new best mate, will be out until the middle of October with a calf injury. ‘There are things that appear to be conspiring against us,’ added Ince.

Not good news guys. For our midfield tomorrow, the only central midfielders available are Keith Andrews, Tugay, Aaron Mokoena and Steven Reid.

My recommendation would be to move Brett into the centre and play him alongside either Reid or Andrews and stick Carlos Villanueva on the right wing.

Andre Ooijer is back so will compete with Danny Simpson for the right back spot.

  • Not good news this guys. Dunny has been our best midfielder so far this season. Time for one of the others to step up to the plate. Grella will be missed to.

  • So we might finally see Villaneuva? Well that’s something. Shame about Dunn, looked like he was shaping up for a great season. Pity about the Gorella, too. Was looking forward to seeing a few more of those apenine challenges, lol.

  • Listen guys, we dont want an Axe II, iv had enough of watching Axe I have to tackle all day because his first touch is so crap!!!! ha ha seriously, i’m sure Grella is a much better footballer and i love seein our guys fly in to challenges……You can add Simpson to the list of bruisers too…..PS did anyone see Warnock annihilate John Paintsil on Sat???? Oh that guy had it comin to him and boy did Warnock give him some……LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh by the way, mega gutted for my mate Dunny, haven’t had chance to speak to him yet but i know he will be devastated…..get well soon matey!!

  • Great tackle by Warnock on Pantsil. And I think we have already seen that Grella is a better footballer than Axe. Ince will be gutted that Grella is injured.
