Rovers keeper Simon Eastwood has extended his contract at Blackburn Rovers, signing a deal to keep him in East Lancashire until 2016.

Eastwood has spent long periods of the season as deputy stopper at Rovers, but was called upon for a spell in between the sticks over the festive period after Jake Kean’s alarming drop in form.

But since the return to health and fitness of Paul Robinson, Eastwood has been back on the bench – which is understandable given Robbo’s excellent form since his return.

But Simon is happy to be called upon when required, insisting he is happy to push for a place and bide his time.

‘I’m delighted,’ Eastwood told Rovers Player. ‘It is a good achievement for myself to stay at a club like this, so I’m looking forward to the future.

‘I’d like to think that when I got in the team I did a good job. Right now Robbo is playing really well, but whenever I’m called upon I’m sure I’ll be ready.

‘There’s me, Jake and Robbo training hard and pushing each other every single day. Everyone gets along with each other and we work well together, so it is good. I enjoy coming in every day.’
