Simon Eastwood has found a new club, signing a one-year deal with a former club Oxford United after Blackburn released him after three-years at Ewood Park.

He didn’t play a match in the final year of his Blackburn contract up to his release with new boss Owen Coyle deciding not to retain him but given his desire for first-team football even if he did this wouldn’t appear to be an option he would have taken?

Eastwood links up with our former boss at Oxford with Michael Appleton having worked with him during his own brief spell at Ewood, after joining Oxford he was quoted by the BBC as saying.

‘It was time to leave Blackburn to play first-team football and that’s what I am here for. I think it is very different (to when I was here before), there are only a couple lads still here from last time.’

Eastwood could get a second-year at the Kassam Stadium if Oxford exercise such an option.

Another bit of news from this week has seen Blackburn and Mansfield confirm the planned pre-season friendly has called off.

It was ‘mutually agreed’ not to play this match at the One Call Stadium on Tuesday 26th July owing to the fact the sides drew each other in the EFL Cup first round.
