Emerton Top Defender

Vital Blackburn’s most recent Poll asked you who you felt was worthy of the title “Defender of the Month for August?” You voted Brett Emerton top man.

The player who you voted the most effective defender for August, in a month that if we are honest wouldn’t be our best for our defensive displays at times, would be ironically enough a player that wouldn`t normally be recognised as a defender, Rovers winger Brett Emerton!

Pulling in 65% of the votes, Emerton, converted successfully to a right-back in August by Mark Hughes after looking destined to leave Ewood Park in the summer is seen as the most effective defender, and rightly so in my opinion.

The defender joining Emerton in the overall vote to determine player of the month for August with 21% is Mr Versatile himself Lucas Neill, who ended the month at left-back, as well as being captain.

I think Zurab Khizanishvili deserves a small mention, and had he not missed the opening game through injury I think he may have made it through and picked up more than the 2% he did.

Aaron Mokoena only played the opening days 4-0 hammering at Portsmouth so this didn’t help him either he would attract 2%. Andy Todd didn’t really perform if I am honest so even his 5% could be viewed as generous. Michael Gray’s thumping performance in a Manchester restaurant helped him I’d say (even though Rooney’s knockout blow came in September!) he pulled in a 5%!

So in summary
Brett Emerton – 65%
Michael Gray – 5%
Zurab Khizanishvili – 2%
Aaron Mokoena – 2%
Lucas Neill – 21%
Andy Todd – 5%

As the search for the Rovers player of the month for August continues the current poll (running for the whole of Sunday and Monday only) is asking “Midfielder of the Month for August?”

Remember the two midfielders with the most votes advance to the overall poll, joining Emerton and Neill to determine who you feel deserves the title as Vital Blackburn Rovers Player of the Month for August.
