One of the few positives of late (arguably this season as a whole so far) was the goalscoring debut made by Swansea loanee Marvin Emnes from the substitutes bench at Leeds on Tuesday.
An instant debut is something Owen Coyle said he was tempted to give to Emnes at Elland Road but decided to integrate him into the Blackburn starting XI from the bench with him taking little time to make an impact after coming on.
His goal got Blackburn level but Leeds still found a late winner to make it five defeats from seven-matches under Coyle in the Championship with the boss telling rovers.co.uk he’s set to make his full debut when Rotherham come to Ewood Park on Saturday.
‘You saw it on Saturday with his little cameo at Queens Park Rangers, and it was touch and go as to whether we started him at Leeds, but he’s certainly shown that he’s ready to start the games now. He is fully fit, he is up and running and he scored a wonderful goal.’
The Dutchman, proven at Championship level with Middlesbrough in the past, is ‘different’ to other options Coyle has available.
He’s confident with what he can produce, as a lone option or with a partnership, adding.
‘He is different to what we have got, he’s got a little bit of trickery about him, he can do the individual stuff, he can play up there on his own. So he gives us another potent threat in the forward area.’
Something needs to happen at Ewood and quick, if Emnes plays his part in this so be it but the pressure (and discontent) is growing. Then again results aren’t likely to change this anyway!
