Former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen is training again with Bolton Wanderers as he attempts to again get his career back on track.

Jansen, 28, was snapped up by Sam Allardyce in January on a free transfer from Rovers but only made six appearances during his five-month spell at the Reebok Stadium before his release in May.

Having been interested in a move to the United States no such deal materialised and The Mirror newspaper is claiming that Jansen is now training with Bolton again as he attempts to get fit, with a deal possibly waiting for him if he impresses.

Between 1999 and 2006 Jansen scored 44 goals in 153 appearances at Ewood, earning himself an England call-up for the friendly with Paraguay in April 2002. This call-up seemed to leave him in line with a shot at going to the 2002 World Cup but illness forced him to withdraw from that squad which ultimately ruined any World Cup chances he might have had.

In the summer when Jansen could have been in Japan and Korea he was involved in the motorcycle accident in Rome that almost killed him. He was left hospitalised and reported to have been in a coma for four days.

Upon his footballing return Jansen struggled to regain his place and the club eventually decided a break from football would do him good and he was sent to America to see a sports psychiatrist.

Having signed a new two-year “pay as you play” contract in 2005 Jansen would be released midway through it and signed for Bolton. I for one wish him all the best as he attempts to earn himself another chance in the Premiership.
