Rovers legendary goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who currently plays for Aston Villa, has been declared bankrupt at Macclesfield County Court after left facing a massive tax bill.
The bankruptcy comes in conjunction with his Ohio Football Academy, set up during his time at Ewood Park and after a lot of commercial sponsorship fell through it left Brad facing an uphill battle to pay the bills.
A whooping £5 million is what Brad owed by time of the order made today.
Brad is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying – “It`s set up as a non-profit business. I don`t make any money on it.”
A spokesman for Friedel added in the same publication – “This is a technical bankruptcy and it is not anticipated that it will be in place for long, as an application for an annulment will be submitted in the next few days.
‘Arrangements are in place to deal with the issues which gave rise to the bankruptcy.”
Poor Brad, good luck sorting this out.
Ex-Rover Friedel declared bankrupt

This is terrible news…
Brad was the last footballer you’d expect to go tits up, he always seemed so level headed 🙁
Hopefully he will get things sorted and the liabilty will remain with the company rather than Brad
This has been a shock like you say Stubbs… sound like a complete misfortune but I fear Brad is gonna have to accept a lot of blame here!
Great goalkeepers don’t necessarily make great businessmen or even philanthropists. We can only wish Brad every success in sorting this out as painlessly as possible.
Sad and surprised by this. Not high living, just a business that went wrong.
How can anyone get so deep in debt before the plug is pulled
Perhaps he can ask Bent for a loan.
Big Brad should had gone into the chicken business instead, he would have easily become a billionaire by now… 🙂
