I’d honestly felt that Blackburn Rovers could pull off an FA Cup upset (another one, but bigger than the Swansea City and Stoke City ones) against Liverpool, however, it wasn’t to be.

We’d taken The Reds to an Ewood Park Replay after deservingly drawing 0-0 at Anfield weeks ago but it wasn’t to be for us in the Quarter-Final Replay on Wednesday evening with The Premier League side doing enough as that little extra bit of quality that they had saw them enough to a 1-0 win and a Semi Final meeting with Aston Villa.

Rovers had some chances but Simon Mignolet again kept us out as the Liverpool goalkeeper made saves to keep out superb Craig Conway and Ben Marshall efforts and even after Liverpool had taken the lead through Phillipe Coutinho Mignolet denied us again to save from the unlikely source of Simon Eastwood late in the match.

I never once claimed (unquestionably) that Rovers would win this FA Cup tie, however, I’d had firm believe that we could!! However, the FA Cup dream’s now over for Rovers but we can’t even “concentrate on the League” as they say as the promotion chances ended too long ago with a lack of consistency costing us, as has the failure to beat those that we would’ve been expected to beat all too often raising our game to beat the opposition fewer would’ve thought (not Liverpool on this occasion!!)

It’ll be an interesting Summer, however, you worry about it being a depressing one as the FFP (as much as anything, several will want the step up too) will probably dictate that the top players (of quality, ability and value) will be leaving Ewood.

Replacing them with quality of similar levels will be the problem!!
