Police are warning pubs in Blackburn not to open too early ahead of Sunday’s MASSIVE Lancashire derby between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley on Sunday.

This is not just a friendly warning or advice, Police are seriously warning pubs not to start serving before lunchtime as they fear allowing excessive drinking before the match at Ewood Park could lead to trouble and those urged not to open before 12.30pm could face serious consequences if they do take note of these warnings.

PC Finley told the Lancashire Telegraph: “A lot of the pubs are showing the game on Sky TV and want to do so in peace.

“The vast majority of licensees co-operate and have a good relationship with us. They have door staff on who instigate a home fans only policy on match days.

“However, if any are caught out, it will be a breach of their licensing conditions, which could result in six months prison sentence or a £20,000 fine.

It makes sense as the more you can reduce the risk of trouble breaking out around a high pressure event the better with it understood that the vast majority are willing and able to co-operate with this anyway, which always helps!!
