Fazackerley: Dunn Not Dusted Yet

Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn has what it takes to force his way back into the England set-up, that is what Rovers legend Derek Fazackerley feels anyway.

Dunn has made a superb start to the season, which has seen him get back to somewhere near his very best (after years of injury misfortune) and the kind of form that brought him an England cap back in 2002, during his first spell with Rovers.

Since returning he has steadily built up his fitness and form, thus far avoiding major injuries (touch wood, LONG may this continue!) and it is this form that makes Fazackerley (who coached Dunn, and other during his coaching days at Ewood Park) think that he could make it back into the England set-up.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “David was one of the young players coming through when I was at Rovers along with Damien Duff, Damien Johnson, Martin Taylor and players like that.

“There’s no doubt that David is a very talented player. He struggled for about two years with hamstring injuries and hopefully that’s behind him now.

“I think, first and foremost, he needs six months playing on a regular basis and then maybe he can look to get back into the England team.

“There’s lots of competition for places in midfield in the England team at the moment, But, at the moment, Frank Lampard is injured and Steven Gerrard is injured so you never know when the opportunity is going to come up and you have to be ready for it.

“If David does well for Rovers, that will put him back into the spotlight and the opportunity may present itself
.”

This in not something that should be ruled out (even if it may have seemed unlikely) but staying injury free and performing consistently well for Rovers is the first stage, but you never can tell what might happen?!?!
