Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer has been linked with a return to Dutch football with Feyenoord, but their coach Bert Van Marwijk has played this down.
The Dutch International, who endured a torrid start to his Rovers career, overcame that hurdle to become a major part of the Rovers defence last season before a broken leg ended his season in January. Since then Ryan Nelsen has returned to fitness and Christopher Samba has been signed (and been superb!), so he has found it difficult to command a regular starting place this term, hence the talk of a return to Holland, where it was alledged that Feyenoord had (or at least would) make and offer for Ooijer, however, although this has not been ruled out, it has been played down.
Van Marwijk told Voetbal International: “We are always looking at ways of strengthening all areas.
“But at this moment we have not got in contact with any player.”
The veteran defender is in the final year of his Rovers contract so it is quite possible that he will move on, if so whether this is in January or next summer only time will tell.

Feyenoord Play Down Ooijer Rumours

Ooijer was superb last season before his injury, and has been fairly good overall this season when he has had a chance, but personally I feel he is slipping down the order and although he would have been my first choice right-back at the start of the season I can now see why so many disagreed and do feel he will probably leave, if not before his contract runs out, when it does.
i recall he got turned over big time by Drogba at your place!
on his debut mer… he has been a lot better since then. Witness his persormances as against Spurs and Chelsea this year for proof.
this guy should start for us i know everyone says that emo and bents have a good partnership but defenders are there to defend first and foremost and for me that puts him ahead of emo who i think may have caused the second goal on sunday! plus his experience is invaluable so we have to keep him at the club to bring nolan and others along!
merlin – That was probably the worst debut performance I have ever seen (even worse than that dude that Graeme Souness got suckered into signing when he ws at Southampton!!!)
But as MikeyGamst points out he’s been MUCH, MUCH better since, and has looked ever inch the Dutch International that he currently is.
That guy was called Ali Dia… if i’m not mistaken. Pure comedy.
I like Ooijer – he is usually solid and surprises people by having a pop at goal now and again (don’t always go in tho!) But we need to keep these players and build a decent squad if we want to finish high up this season. Same goes for people like Roberts
to be fair Durks Emo was prob our best defender on Sunday. Although your right about the 2nd goal.
Hey Merlin – Ooijer had a bad first game – Drogba had a bad first season!
good point that FN1… that is your short hand from now on Freidel!!!! 😉
like it!
goood then its settled. Guys no need to type all that time and time agaiN!!!! lol
FN1 – That was a superb comeback, I just hope that our friend merlin (and he is our friend isn’t he VBers as we do like him and pretty much all the Chelsea boys) sees it lol!
he is a good lad merlin so no harm meant…. but the joke was there to be made…. well done FN1!!!! lol….
well if you can’t hav a bit of banter amongst fans… (‘except burnley!)
He will find it hard to get back into the first team with Nelson and Samba playing well. Maybe a loan spell at Leeds would help him return to match fitness!!!!!
I think in Hughes mind he is first choice if either God or Wall are out… for that reason we will keep him.
He needs to stay, just in case Ryan has another set-back with his hamstring. If Ooijer gets back in and plays well, Hughes tends to keep people in – he’s quite fair like that
Quite right too… bad message to send out if you play well and then get dropped back to the bench.
Good player from what I’ve seen. Hope he has a stinker against us though! 😉
if hes out of contract soon I guess you will listen to any offers that will raise a few bob for him…or have you accrued for this and written him off your books…………….
I think he’ll stay – he’s solid and an international regular, we need players of his quality in our squad
