Word has just reached us that a first bid of £3 million from Olympiacos was rejected by Rovers for the services of England u-21 striker Matt Derbyshire but the Greeks should be back in the next days to up the stakes.

Matt was on loan to Olympiacos since January but is now back in England getting treatment for an minor injury sustained in April.

The Greek side are really keen to do business as Derbyshire was a roaring success over there so an improved bid seems the next logical step.

With Derbs wanting the most football he can get it is 50/50 now whether he will be at Ewood come August. Matty wants to play and maybe feels he wont get loads at his boyhood team – he might feel he can get more at Olympiacos.

Matt is expected to have a chat with Big Sam to see what will be on tap for him at Rovers if he decides to stay – Rovers are always his first choice but he has commented that he is at a stage of his career where he needs to be pressing on.
