Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Johnny Flynn, and he becomes the first signing of the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old has signed for an undisclosed amount from Ballymena United and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Rovers. His former Ballymena manager Tommy Wright was sad to see him leave but rates him VERY highly, rating him as the best teenager that he has seen in the Irish League for some time.

Wright said: “I am reluctant to talk up young players, but in my opinion Johnny Flynn is the best teenage defender I have seen in the Irish League for some time. He is composed, mature and calm on the ball, and he is also a good defender.

“I think Blackburn have got a very talented defender who is good in the air, has a nice range of passing and has good physical stature. He will also improve and develop with age
.”

Rovers chairman John Williams is also pleased to have Flynn on board, he told the Lancashire Telegraph: “He shows a lot of promise and we think he’s one for the future.”
