Tony Mowbray’s bid to bring in a new forward could result in Blackburn signing Rickie Lambert?

According to Evening Herald, Plymouth’s bid to sign Lambert, a free agent following his release by Cardiff, will be scuppered by Rovers’ interest in the veteran.

Lambert, who made his name in the lower leagues at Bristol Rovers before enjoying much success at Southampton, resulting in a dream move to Liverpool and playing for England, could be heading to Ewood Park.

Having decided he wasn’t in his future plans Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, in agreement with Lambert, 35, terminated the forwards contract and he had been linked with League One rivals Plymouth.

But reports from the Plymouth-based Evening Herald seem to suggest Argyle aren’t confident of fending off Blackburn interest as they couldn’t compete with the offer Rovers could propose to Lambert.
