Former Blackburn Rovers defender Stephen Henchoz has announced his retirement from the professional game.

Henchoz (who was plagued by injuries last season) didn’t even make an appearance (I don’t think?) and has been without a club since leaving Ewood Park for a second time, so the 34-year-old has decided to call it a day. However, the former Swiss International intends to remain in the game and is working on his coaching badges.

Hedgehog’s career spanned 17-years as a professional, with his best years coming at Anfield with Liverpool where he won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup all in one season (2001.)

Meanwhile the national media is linking Rovers with a move for two promising youngsters.

England Youth International Jason Banton is understood to be leaving Arsenal and Paul Ince is interested in recruiting the 16-year-old along with Liverpool’s striker Nathan Eccleston, who is also an England Youth International.
