Following in the footsteps of Morten Gamst Pedersen appearing on Getting to Know…Step Up, Frankie Fielding!

A Couple of weeks back, Glen promised me a Getting to Know, and Glen has delivered. On behalf of all of us Vital Blackburners, we would like to thank Frankie Fielding for answering these few questions, and Glen Mullan for stalking away!

1. How and When did you get spotted by Blackburn?

I got spotted at Blackburn when I regularly attended the clubs soccer school at the B.R.L.C The under 9 age group was in its first year. That season we didn’t have many games put trained regular. And loved being apart of a rovers team

2. What is the Academy experience like, Do the club promote education to go hand in hand with football and what sort of support do they give to ensure you get both?

I loved every minute being part of the Rovers academy. Met some great people. My room mate was Keith treacy and we got on straight away. The club promotes its education policy strongly. Gary Bower the current reserve coach was the youth team coach. Where we attended college twice a week studying a btec in sport he said if u didn’t keep up with your college work u weren’t in contention for Saturdays league fixtures. Simple as that

3.Who has been the biggest influence on your football career

Its hard to just say just 1 person has influenced my career. I like to think I have listened learnt and took things off different coaches. Sean Kimberley the assistant academy manager at the time was massive for me. And training with Brad Friedel everyday for 3 years speaks for itself

4.It was sad when you left Blackburn for Derby, Do you think its that much harder for goalkeepers than any other position to get regular football?

Yeah it was sad but also a fresh start for me personally. I’ve been at Blackburn since the age of 8 signed for Derby at 23 that’s at lot of years. I loved my time at Blackburn but wasn’t going anywhere and the opportunity at a big club at Derby with the chance to play regular football was too good to turn down

5.Who did you support as boy?

Easy answer Blackburn

6.Who is the best player you have played with?

Tugay enough said

7.Who is the most dedicated player you have come across when it comes to application at training

I’ve been out on loan at a few different clubs and there a lot of great pros I have worked with. The 1 that stands out for me is 1 of my mates who plays for Wycombe Wanderers. Matty Bloomfield. Everything the lad does is so profesional. To the way he trains to the way he eats and lives his life. He a good player and should be playing at a higher level

8.Is there one player at Rovers when you was in the academy who you would consider as one that got a way too early and could have made an impression on the first team?

Matt Derbyshire. He’s a local lad like me and like every fan loves it when he is a local lad putting on the blue and white. In my opinion he got sold too quickly. The club has its reasons but I would love him 1 day put on the shirt again.

9.How many hours per week would a footballer train with his team mates?

That all depends on what games the team has in the week. Being at Derby there’s a lot more games than at bburn. So training has to be in accordance to this. A typical day at training with bburn would be 2 hours in the morning. Lunch then a hour in the afternoon. A day off in the middle of the week then saturdays game off on sunday

10. What is your favourite pre-match meal?

Chicken pasta and baked beans. Polished off with toast and jam. Mmmm

11. Derby is a a famous club with great tradition, How excited are you to have got a chance for first team football, with a club which you know well from your time on loan?

I’m answering these questions at the very start of pre season.. I’m really excited about playing regular football. I’m grateful to Derby for this fantastic opportunity.

Once again, we would like to thank Frankie for such an honest interview, and we wish him all the best at Derby. Maybe one day down the track, he will return and become the Blackburn Number 1!
