Give yourselves a round of applause

I remember back in April the feeling of dejection and fear when we crashed 2-0 in a display that lacked any punch or drive to Everton at Goodison Park.

We looked lost, without inspiration and heading for the drop without a whimper. We had a manager that no-one was keen on (yes I know) and we hadn’t won since January.

Knowing what we know today it is difficult to pin point the exact moment that we fought back with pride but as much as the players and the managers have been great in the last few games and have lapped up the plaudits the fans deserve an equal share of the credit.

It reminds me of two seasons ago when we again faced the drop, the Rovers fans made the extra effort and made extra noise to assure we stayed safe back in 2008-09. When the chips were down the fans roared us all to another season in the Premier League and two seasons later history has repeated itself.

The fans of Blackburn Rovers have often received flak for generating a relatively quiet home atmosphere and not travelling in great numbers when on the road but when the club needed them most they made sure the players received full backing.

Selling out away allocations at West Ham, Fulham and Arsenal, places notorious for small blue and white followings coupled with loud, vocal backing at Ewood against both Manchester sides and especially Bolton showed the good side of the fans and if anyone deserved to stay up it was us.

Even on the last day away at Wolves in the nail biting finale there were 3,000 Roverites in attendance and he notoriously hostile Wolves fans even came over to applaud the effort of the away fans.

So well done the fans of Blackburn Rovers. In a season where morons have booed Keith Andrews and fans of other clubs have had their stereotyped pops at us we came together when it mattered.

We are a Premier League club with Premier League fans.
