Blackburn Rovers defender Gael Givet was understood to be facing a sustained period of time on the treatment table, however, the news is better on the left-back than first thought.

Sam Allardyce has revealed that there is no serious damage to Givet’s knee (with it initially feared that the Frenchman has twisted it), however, the inflammation just needs to settle down and a return against Arsenal (after the visit to Ewood Park of Aston Villa) should be possible.

Allardyce told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “Gael has a slight knee problem. We think that it isn’t as serious a damage as we first expected off the scan.

“It needs to settle down. There’s a bit of inflammation, some swelling will have to go away.

“He’ll be very doubtful for Saturday, but certainly the week after he should be okay.

To be without Givet for just one match (hopefully!!) would be a massive boost for us as the former French International has become a very important first team player for us since his arrival from Marseille, even more so with Stephen Warnock moving onto Aston Villa. It’s just a shame that Givet will miss that match, but it could’ve been a lot worse!!
