Goals galore for Wisla rest are poor

We all know Rovers put in an excellent display over the weekend, extending our unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions. However, how did our European opponents fair?

It is appropriate to start with Wisla Krakow who we face on Thursday. They continued their unbeaten start to the season with a sensational display against league strugglers Odra, thrashing them 6-0! That win moved them to the top of their league with 20 points from their opening 10 fixtures.

Wisla have recently completed the signing of 30-year old Stanko Svitlika on a contract until the end of the season. He did not feature in his new sides resounding victory and won`t be legible to play in the UEFA Cup.

Their goal scorers on the day were: Sobolewski, Radovanovic, Blaszczykowski, Guedes de Lima and a late brace from Pawel Kryszalowicz. Whilst it is an emphatic victory, the level of the opposition has to be taken into consideration. It is also important to note their star player failed to score any of the goals.

F C Basel didn`t fair as well in their league match away to Schaffhausen, losing 4-2. It was only the home side`s second win of the season as Basel were never really in the game. Japanese defender Koji Nakata pulled a goal back to make the score 2-1 but Schaffhausen soon added a third. Basel`s star striker Mladen Petric again reduced the arrears but a late fourth was added ensuring Basel dropped a place to sixth in the league.

Feyenoord had to battle hard to gain a point RKC Waalwijk after going 2-0 nil down early on.

Erwin Koeman`s side are currently reeling from the loss of both Romeo Castelen and Pieter Collen to long-term injuries. Pacey attacker, Castelen will be sorely missed because of his excellent goal scoring record, despite playing most games on the wing.

Their absences were felt against Waalwijk when they had to battle hard and only managed to secure a point after an Ali Boussaboun goal and a Theo Lucius penalty on half-time.

Finally Nancy had to survive an explosive encounter away at middle-table side Le Mans. The final score was 0-0 but Nancy had to play the majority of the second period with ten men after Pascal Berenguer was dismissed. They stay at third in the league but they have now drawn four of their last five including three nil-nil draws.
